Common Questions

Everything you might want to know.

Answers to the questions we get most often — organized by service. If yours isn't here, give us a call at (570) 992-4404.

General

Where are you located?

We're at 209 Stofflet Rd, Sciota, PA 18354 — in the Pocono Mountains, minutes from Kalahari Resort, Great Wolf Lodge, Camelback Lodge, and every major Pocono destination.

What are your hours?

Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm for grooming and boarding drop-off/pick-up. Sundays are reserved for scheduled boarding drop-offs and pick-ups only, between 9am and 10am. We're closed on major holidays. If you need flexibility outside these Sunday windows, give us a call and we'll do our best to accommodate.

How do I book?

Book boarding at booking.poconosbarkinglot.com/boarding-form or grooming at booking.poconosbarkinglot.com/grooming-form-page. Prefer to talk to a person? Call us at (570) 992-4404.

How long have you been in business?

Since 1982. Karen Friemann founded The Barking Lot that year, and the Burns family runs it today — same family-run care, four decades on.

Do you take both dogs and cats?

Yes to both. Boarding is available for dogs and cats. Grooming is available for both as well — we're one of the few places in the Poconos that grooms cats.

Boarding

How close are you to Kalahari and Great Wolf Lodge?

We're minutes from both. Kalahari is a quick drive down Route 611, Great Wolf Lodge is nearby, and Camelback Lodge is a short drive. Give us a call and we'll help you plan drop-off timing that works with your check-in.

Can I book last-minute?

Usually yes. Same-day bookings are common — especially for Pocono vacationers who realize at the last minute their resort doesn't allow pets. Call us at (570) 992-4404 and we'll figure it out together.

What should I bring for my dog?

Bring your dog's vaccination records (Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella), pre-portioned food for the length of the stay, and any medications with clear instructions.

Comfort items like a favorite blanket or toy are welcome — they help your dog settle in.

What if my pet has special needs or is on medication?

We handle special-needs pets regularly — diabetic dogs, senior cats, dogs on daily meds, dogs with anxiety. Let us know when you book so we can plan for it, and bring clear medication instructions.

Are you open on holidays?

We're closed on major holidays. Sundays are limited to scheduled boarding drop-off/pick-up between 9am and 10am only. For flexibility outside those windows, call us and we'll work with you.

Grooming

How much does a full groom cost?

Pricing depends on breed, size, and coat condition. We give you an honest quote up front based on your dog. Call us at (570) 992-4404 with your dog's breed and weight and we'll give you a starting price right away.

Do I need an appointment for a nail trim?

No appointment required for walk-in nail trims. Just call ahead at (570) 992-4404 so we know to expect you. Most nail trims are in-and-out in 10 minutes.

Do you really groom cats?

Yes. Bath, brush-out, sanitary trims, dematting, and lion cuts for long-haired breeds. Most groomers in the Poconos won't take cats — we will.

What if my dog is anxious or hates grooming?

We've worked with thousands of anxious dogs over 40+ years. We take breaks, we move slowly, we use gentle handling, and we tell you honestly if your dog needs an alternative approach. Tell us when you book and we'll plan accordingly.

How long does a full groom take?

Most full grooms take 2–4 hours from drop-off to pick-up, depending on size, coat, and how busy we are. We'll give you a pick-up time when you drop off.

What if my dog has matting?

It happens — life gets busy. We do our best to dematt humanely without shaving down, but severe matting sometimes requires a clip-down for the dog's comfort. We'll talk you through options when we see your dog.
